Fans on social media have raised concerns over Lithgow’s age, with some comparing the situation to that of Richard Harris, who passed away after filming the first two films. Lithgow, 79, would be 80 when the series begins airing and potentially 90 by the time the multi-season series concludes.
One Reddit user wrote, “He’s an incredible actor. But I’m just worried whether he’s too old, and we might end up having another Richard Harris situation down the line.”
Lithgow joins a cast that includes Nick Frost as Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Luke Thalon as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch. The casting for the central trio—Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley—has not yet been announced.
The Harry Potter reboot is expected to begin filming this summer and will adapt one book per season. A premiere is tentatively scheduled for 2026.
