Nick Frost, the actor bringing Rubeus Hagrid to life in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter television series, is prepared for some fans to reject his version of the beloved half-giant.

In an interview with IGN, Frost addressed the inevitable comparisons to the late Robbie Coltrane, saying he understands that not everyone will embrace the change.

"It's going to be, 'Not my Hagrid,'" Frost said, anticipating the reaction from longtime Potterheads.

A new take on a familiar world

The HBO series is a decade-long reimagining of J.K. Rowling's books, with a new cast taking on iconic roles. Frost's casting as Hagrid was announced to mixed reactions, with many fans feeling strong nostalgia for Coltrane's portrayal.

Frost, known for his work in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, acknowledged the pressure but remained confident. He emphasized that it's alright if some people don't like it, because the series is a fresh take and not meant to replicate the films exactly.

"Some people won't like the new series, but that's alright," Frost told IGN.

Looking ahead

As production continues, fans can look forward to a new interpretation of the magical world. Frost's honesty may actually endear him to skeptics eager to see a different side of Hagrid.

With filming underway and the series expected to premiere in 2026, viewers will soon have the chance to judge for themselves.
